Playing just twenty fours after learning of his father's death, Brett Favre came through and played what is being described as one of the greatest games of his career. Favre threw for four touchdowns and 399 yards. By halftime, he recorded a quarterback rating of 158.3!!! That's the maximum rating a quarterback can get. In the end, the statistic that really mattered was that the Packers prevailed in a dominating 41-7 victory.
After stopping the Raiders opening drive of the night on a three and out series, highlighted by a KGB's first sack of the night on the quarterback the Packers began their assult at the 20. Green opened up with a run of 10. Three plays later on a third and 11, Favre passed to Robert Ferguson for a huge gain of 46 yards down to the Oakland 24. Two plays later, on second and 10 from the 24, Favre passed down field to Wesley Walls in the endzone, who leaped up and made the catch for the score. Longwell added the extra point and it was 7-0. The Packer defense again shut down Oakland and forced them to punt giving the Packers the ball back. Two plays and a penalty found the Packers faced with a third and 12. Favre tossed a screen pass to Tony Fisher which gained 32 yards. On the next play,Favre faked a bootleg, rolled out to his right and threw a completed pass to Javon Walker for the touchdown, Longwell added the p.a.t. and the Packers were rolling at 14-0 with 5:17 remaining in the opening quarter. The Raiders staged what would be their only real threat of the night on their next series. Oakland would strike back on a six play-61 yard drive, capped off by a 25 yard run for the touchdown by Charlie Garner making it 14-7 as the first quarter drew to a close.
Early in the second quarter, the Packers came back to extend the margin to 10 points. Two times on the drive, Favre hit receivers for long gains on third downs. First he passed to Ferguson for 11 yards on a third and eight. Then several plays later, on third and 12, he passed to Driver for 33 yards. The drive eventually stalled. Longwell came in and kicked a 31 yard field goal to make it 17-7. The Packers scored again, the very next time they had the football. On the first down,Green gained 19 yards. A few plays later, again faced with a third and long..... Favre threw a perfect pass to Robert Ferguson who balanced himself and stayed in bounds for a gain of 28 yards. On the very next play, Favre threw a great touchdown pass to Javon Walker, who made the catch sandwiched between two Oakland defenders. Longwell added the p.a.t. and the lead grew to 24-7 with 7:05 still remaining in the first half. The defense continued to stop Oakland, including an attempt on a fourth and 1. Meanwhile, the Packers would find the endzone one more time before the half ended. Favre directed a five play-89 yard drive. The drive was highlighted by another huge pass play, this time Favre connected with Javon Walker for 46 yards. Favre then threw a bootleg to the right side pass to David Martin for the score. With the extra point, the Packers took a commanding 31-7 lead into the locker room.
The Packers opened the second half with still another dominating play. Davenport returned the kickoff 55 yards. Oakland's defense got tight, and held the Packers to a 27 yard field goal from Longwell making the score 34-7. Thats all for the scoring in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, all that was left to be decided was the actual final score. On defense, Kabeer Gbaja Biamilla recorded his third sack of the night, which then forced Oakland to go for a first down on fourth and 9, but the pass was incomplete, allowing Green Bay to take over at the 23. Once again, as he had already done several times earlier, Favre connected for a big gain pass play on a third and long. This time, he connected with Driver for 41 yards. A few plays later on third and nine, Favre passed to Freeman for 14 yards down to the 8. On the next play, Green scrambled 8 yards for the score. Longwell added the extra point to make the FINAL SCORE:
PACKERS 41

***** The Packers will win the division if they defeat Denver and if the Vikings lose at Arizona****
