The up and down season of 2003 went on an up- swing Sunday as the Packers spotted the BEARS a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, and then proceeded to roll off 34 straight points on route to a 34-21 victory.
The Packers and Bears traded field position with punts on each of their first two possessions. The Packer offense also only produced a three and out series on their third series.The Bears began their third drive of the day following the punt at the 16. On third and nine at the 16, Kordell Stewart passed to David Terrell for a gain of 21 yards down to the 39. On the next play, Stewart passed to Marty Booker, who beat Mike McKenzie on the coverage and scored the 39 yard touch down.Edinger added the p.a.t. for a 7-0 Bears lead. The Bears would extend the lead shortly after that on the Packers next possession. Faced with a third and eight at the 35, Favre went to pass and threw up a wobbly balloon pass which was picked off by Lance Briggs at the 45 and then returned the distance for the score. Edinger added the point after,and the Bears led 14-0 with fifty seconds remaining in the quarter.
The Packers finally got on the board early in the second quarter. On third and nine, Favre connected with Fisher for a gain of 18 yards to keep the drive moving. Green gained five on a carry, and Bubba Franks caught a pass for a gain of six. The drive stalled and resulted in a 24 yard field goal from Longwell for a 14-3 score.
On the kick-off, Jerry Azumah fumbled and Torrence Marshall of the Packers recovered at the 21. Favre and the offense were not able to find the end zone, but Longwell had the distance from 38 yards away to make it a 14-6 game with just over 10 minutes left in the half. The Packer defense stopped the Bears offense on the next drive, despite Stewart completing a 22 yard pass to Booker. Two plays later, Stewart was sacked for a seven yard loss by Cletius Hunt, forcing a punt. Favre and the offense took over at the 14. Ferguson caught a pass for a 20 yard gain out to the 42. A few plays later on first down at the 47, Davenport ran for a 13 yard gain. A few plays later, Ferguson caught another pass for a gain of 12 down to the 22. On the next play, Favre threw to Javon Walker for a touch down! Longwell added the p.a.t to make it 14-13 as the first half drew to a close.
After stopping the Bears opening drive of the third quarter,on an interception by Mike McKenzie the Packers claimed their first lead of the day, as Longwell connected on a 35 yard yard field goal giving Green Bay a 16-14 lead. The Bears went a fast three and out on the next drive, which enabled the Packers to extend the lead on their lead, as Longwell capped off a nine play drive with his FOURTH field goal of the day,and his longest from 45 yards giving the Packers a 19-14 lead to close out the third quarter.
The Bears opened the fourth quarter on a long drive starting at the 28. On the 12th play of the drive, the Bears were down to the 16 and faced with a third and 16, Stewart passed to Dez White, but Mike McKenzie intercepted the pass and weaved his way down field 90 yards for the touchdown! On the extra point, the Packers went for 2, Favre tossed a pass to Franks for the completion and a 27-14 lead. The Bears loss was sealed later in the quarter. With 3;21 remaining, the Bears had a fourth and 10 at the 10, Stewart attempted to pass, ut the Packer blitz came in and sacked him for an 8 yard loss. The Packers took over at the 2. Two Plays later, Green scored the touch down for a 34-14 lead.
Chicago had one last dash, on the kick-off and Azumah returned it 88 yards for the touch down.Edinger added the extra point, to make the FINAL SCORE
