General Manager and head coach Mike Sherman announced on Monday afternoon that the Packers upon mutual agreement between thenselves and Antonio Freeman have placed the veteran wide receiver on waivers.
Despite efforts during this off-season to keep Freeman in a Packer uniform, the Packers were simply not able to reach an agreement with him.
The release of Freeman, ends one of the most productive tenures by a wide receiver in the Packers 81 year history. Freeman leaves Green Bay as the fifth ranking receiver in team annals with 417 catches. He is third in career touchdown receptions with 57. His Monday night game winning catch against the Vikings in overtime, may go down as one of the greatest catches of all times according to Sherman.
Sherman went on to say that Freeman has been an integral part of the Packer's success over his seven year career. Sherman also noted that Freeman was well respected by his coaches and teammates.
Freeman leaves the Packers as the record holder of 11 Packer post-season records. In 2001, he became Green Bay's all time leader in both career receptions and yards receiving for the post seson. In 2002, Freeman added to his list of accomplishments by returning punts when Allan Rossum was injured.
