Headline: Super Effort= Super Win over SuperBowl Champions Game MVP: Brett Favre= 27 of 34 passing- 337 yards- 3 touchdowns Offensive Player of the Game: Antonio Freeman= 9 catches-138 yards-1 touchdown
Last week Brett Favre had a most forgetable game as he threw interceptions in the loss to Tampa Bay. On Sunday, Favre was like his old MVP status as he threw for 337 yards while completing 27 of 34 passes, including three touchdown passes. Also.... he did not throw any interceptions!!! Favre made it look very easy against the best defense in the NFL.
The Packers received the opening kick. Things started off good. Favre completed passes of 5 and 10 yards to Schroeder, and Ahmann Green ran for a gain of 9. Unfortunatly on the play, he fumbled and the Ravens recovered the ball at the 36. The first two plays netted negative yardage. On third and 11, Grbach passed to Quadry Ishmail for a gain of 47 yards down to the 18. On the next play, he passed to Travis Taylor for an 18 yard touchdown. Stover added the PAT and it was 7-0. Neither team theatened on their next possessions. Baltimore, lost a fumble on a second and nine play at the 41, which the Packers recovered. The Packers took over with just under five minutes remaining in the quarter. Favre connected with Schroeder on two consecutive plays for gains of 14 and 4 yards. A play action to Freeman gained 19 and got them down to the 13. Next Freeman gained eight, followed by a two yard gain by Ahmann Green as the quarter ended.
On the first play of the second quarter, Favre passed two yards to Bubba Franks for the touchdown. Longwell added the PAT at it was 7-7. The Ravens went three plays and out on their next series. Following a punt, the Packers took over at the 42. On first down, Favre threw for Schroeder but it was incomplete. However, Baltimore was called for pass interference and the penalty gave the Packers a first down at the 31. Favre kept the drive alive on third and 15 at the 26, by passing to Levens for a gain of 15.From there the drive stalled, and Longwell eventually came in and kicked a 33 yard field goal to give the Packers a 10-7 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. The score remained that until the final minute. The Packers actually started the drive at the 26, following an interception by Mike Mckenzie. Following a penalty, the Packers had a first and 10 again at the 26....Favre passed to Corey Bradford for a gain of 47 yards...setting up a first down at the 27. Fvare then passed to Freeman for a gain of 13. Two plays later on third and 5 from the 8, Favre passed to FREEMAN for the touchdown. The Packers took a 17-7 lead into the locker room at the half.
Baltimore would narrow the gap to 17-10 atabout the five minute mark in the third quarter as Stover would kick a 28 yard field goal. But... Favre and the Packers stord right back before the quarter ended. Favre directed a 9 play--- 80 yard drive. The drive was highlighted by a pass to Donald Driver for 37 yards. Ahamnn Green ran for a pick-up of 19 yards which gave the Packers a first and goal at the 9. Three plays later, Green busted through the right side of the line from one yard out for the touchdown. Longwell added the PAT and the third quarter ended with the Packers in control at 24-10.
In the fourth quarter, the teams traded punts and field position. After the Ravens punted for a second time, the Packers took over at the 18. Green gained 13 yards on a carry out to the 35. The big play on the drive was a 47 yard pass from Favre to Freeman, which gave the Packers a first and goal at the two. On first and goal, Favre passed to Bubba Franks who caught his second touchdown pass of the day. With just under seven minutes remaining in the game, the Packers had the victory sealed at 31-10.
Elvis Grbach left the game with a slight concussion, and Randall Cunningham relieved him. Cunningham managed to direct the Ravens to two late touchdowns. A missed two point conversion, and a Packer recovery of an on-sides kick, helped to assure the Packer VICTORY at 31-23.
