Headline: Seattle Reigns as Snow and Pack Fade in 34-24 Loss at Qwest Field
Game MVP: Abdul Hodge
Offensive Player of the Game: Donald Driver
Defensive Player of the Game: Al Harris
In a chaotic and snow blown first half the Packers tried to take advantage of Seattle QB
Matt Hasselbecks miscues, rustiness and four turnovers to go into the locker room
with a 14-12 lead.
In the second half, Seattle's 2005 NFL MVP; running back
Shaun Alexander, continued to plow through the Green Bay defense like a salt truck clearing a snow
covered highway for 201 yards and a 34-24 victory at Qwest Field Monday Night.
Players of the Game Recap;
GAME MVP: ABDUL HODGE--Hodge had his ups and downs in the game. But the rookie middle linebacker,
starting for the injured Nick Barnett, recovered a Hasselbeck fumble on the go and took it in for
a score. OFFENSE MVP: DONALD DRIVER-- Again Driver shows why he's the Packers MVP this year. His 48
yard slant for a TD was pure west coast offense at its best. A 5 yard catch and 43 yards of Double D
at his best. DEFENSIVE MVP: AL HARRIS-- Made a sweet play stepping in front of Deion Branch for a
interception. Nice recognition of the play. He also held Branch to 4 catches for 38 yards and no td's
Add 4 tackles, 2 pass deflections to top it off.
SUSAN B. ANTHONY PLAYER of the GAME: JON RYAN-- A CFL kicker who can't kick in the snow? The elements should
have been no surprise to Ryan. His 34 yard average per kick on 5 punts don't cut it. Make sure to put on a sun
dress so you can get good leg exstenion next week.
GOLD BAR RATINGS (1-5 BARS)
QB: 2 GOLD BARS-- Favre looked OK. The injury to the nerves in his elbow didn't seem to effect his throws. He completed 61% of his passes for 266yds .Yet all three of his pic's were on deep balls he couldn't put on target. 11 of his 22 completions were to running backs. A product of keeping the offense simple and quick for the rookie lineman. It seems as if Favre would love to catch more teams in personnel changes if only he could get the rest of the team to be just as aware of the situation.
RB'S: 2 GOLD BARS-- Its been a tough go for Ahman Green the last few weeks.Against the Seahawks green rushed for one TD and only 44 yards in14 carries. He did manage to catch 5 balls out of the backfield for 39 yards. In all the backs caught 11 of Favres 22 completions. Vernand Morency looks like he's back running with zip. He caught two balls for 31 yards.Maybe if he got some blocks on kick offs he'd be able to pick up some much needed return yards too.Brandon Miree looked like a hurt player who's been out awhile and what a surprise that is exactly what he is.
WR/TE: 2 GOLD BARS-- Besides Drivers 48yd TD there was not much going on here. Teams know if you can shut down Driver you can slow down the Packers. Good luck trying to slow down Quickie. Greg Jennings did have a nice move to pick up a first down but was held in check all night. The 3rd and 4Th receivers were? Same with the TE's. At least Bubba Franks only catch was mainly due to the fact he was being used in a variety of ways to help Tony Moll and the rest of the rest of the line .
OFFENSIVE LINE: 2 GOLD BARS-- At first glance it seems as if the O-line played a decent game.Favre had time to throw for 266 yards. But the Packers are keeping it simple in the passing game, even more basic then before with all three rookies now starting. Because max protection is needed to complete the deep ball the Pack were going to quick hitters to the backs to try to keep the Seahawks off balance and make it easier for RT Tony Moll. Now add into the mix a sputtering run game and we have an offense in need of Mark Tauscher. It is no coincidence since Tausch has been out so has the Packers running game
.
DEFENSIVE LINE:1-1/2 GOLD BARS--The line had played the run decently till this game.Ryan Pickett couldn't do it alone. He had 8 tackles and 2 passes defensed. But where was everyone else. Kampman,KGB,Cole and Williams. Tackles don't mean you played good. Especially when there made 5-7 yards down Field. Again a QB looks as if he's should have any easy chair. The line needs to bring a better effort down to down. There are to many snaps where the pass rush is non-existent. Cullen Jenkins got jobbed on his roughing the passer penalty.
LINEBACKERS: 2 GOLD BARS-- When a running back gains over 200 yard as Alexander did Monday night you certainly can't only blame the defensive line. In his first start Abdul Hodge did some good things like his fumble recovery for a TD .But he was also burnt for a TD by TE Jeremy Stevens and was out of position often in coverage. The Pack missed Nick Barnett. Hawk and Poppinga did nothing of note in the game. Hawks 15 tackles were as quite a 15 tackles as you can get. Imagine how many yards Alexander would have had if Hawk wasn't there.
DEFENSIVE BACKS: 3 GOLD BARS-- Corners Harris and Woodson were at there best.Woodson had two pics to go along with one for Harris.Darrell Jackson and Deion Branch are as good as it gets and they held them in check for most of the day. The Seahawks went after nickle back Patrick Dendy with receiver DJ Hackett , who had 5 catches for 61 yards and a score, when they had the chance. To Dendys credit he doesn't buckle when beat.He cleans up with sure tackling. For a change safety Marquand Manuel had a good game in pass coverage. He actually laid the wood to Seattle TE Jeremy Stevens causing him to drop the ball. Nick Collins was looking good too until he blew his hammy. Now we'll see if rookie Ty Culver can hold up against the Jets.
SPECIAL TEAMS:1 GOLD BAR-- It seemed as if Seattle was starting at mid Field the entire game. Poor kickoffs and coverage. The kicker Dave Rayner was in on two tackles to his credit. The blocked field goal looks to be Chad Clifton's fault. He and Spitz couldn't hold back one man.Horrific punting. Ryan didn't look to good in the snow. Hopefully this is not a trend. The poor Field position enabled the Seahawks to keep pounding Alexander down there throats.
