Headline: Jets Fly Over Green Bay in 38-10 Debacle Game MVP: Jon Ryan Offensive Player of the Game: Ahman Green Defensive Player of the Game: Cherles Woodson
Some one with the Packers organization forgot to notify the F.A.A. the NY Jets were going to be using Lambeau Field as a runway to the endzone as the Packers lost 38-10 to the Jets in Green Bay Sunday afternoon.
The Jets ,led by QB Chad Pennington and his 263 yards,2 tds and 71% completion ptc., flew by the Packers with a barrage of formation changes leaving the Pack scrambling in there coverage's most of the day. As for the running game each time the Jets taxied closer to a much needed first down or TD they went to RB Cedric "we have lift off" Houston as he shredded the beleaguered Green Bay defense on his way to 105 yards and 2 td's on the frozen tundra Sunday.
GAME MVP:JON RYAN--Under the most difficult of circumstances, due to the passing of his father Friday, Ryan still played and in blustery conditions averaged just about 40 yds on two punts.
OFFENSIVE MVP:AHMAN GREEN-- Green averaged 7.3 yds a carry and only got the ball 14 times.
DEFENSIVE MVP:CHARLES WOODSON--Not a media favorite because of his 10 million dollar signing bonus but imagine if the Pack had a consistent pass rush the balls both he and Al Harris could be picking off.
SUSAN B ANTHONY GOLD COIN PLAYER OF THE GAME : Maybe there was a square dance in Green Bay Sunday night and the D-line already had there dresses on for the game the way the Jets swung there D-line partners round and round.
GOLD BAR RATINGS
(1-5 BARS)
QB:1-1/2 GOLD BARS--Make no mistake about it Brett Favre is in a slump right now. For the past three weeks due to an assortment of nagging injuries (groin and unlar nerve) Favre practice time has been limited and its showing. His timing , accuracy, and rhythm seem to be off right now. Coincidently, this is also how long Mark Tauscher has been out. The offense was already simplified this season with all the rookies and was even scaled backed a notch further with rookie Tony Molls insertion at right tackle. All this adds up to very limited options for Favre in the passing game as evidenced by 14 of his 24 completions again going to the RB's. One bright spot for Favre, beside his pitch and catch td to Driver, is it seems as if his groin is fine as he scrambled for 33 yds in three carries Sunday.
RB/FB:3 GOLD BARS--Again Ahman Green ran hard picking up 102 yds in only 14 carries. Vernand Morency had a tough go picking up only 14 yds in 6 cracks. Green, Moreancy, and Noah Herron stayed busy in the passing game picking up 132 yds on 14 catches. If the Pack wasn't down so much it would have been interesting to see how big of a day Green could have had with 25-27 carries.
WR/TE: 2 GOLD BARS--When Donald Driver is the only one making big plays lately it should come as no surprise #4 seems locked on him. When Greg Jennings shows up on every play like Driver does he will see the ball more. Rookies often believe they are more open then they really are most of the time. Look for him to close out the season strong. Ruvell Martin and Chris Francies were both non-factors . TE Bubba Franks blew two blitz pick-ups in the first two series of the game , the second resulting in the 1st quarter Favre fumble. For someone who went to multiple pro-bowls catching 1 yd td's from Favre her certainly chirps a lot. Did Donald Lee play?
OFFENSIVE LINE:2 GOLD BARS-- The Jets were aware two rookies were on the right side as they used a variety of stunts and blitz's to confuse right guard Jason Spitz and right tackle Tony Moll. This results in Favre having to dump the ball off to the backs and also throws off the timing on deep balls. It also doesn't help when Chad Clifton is being pushed around. The ailing Clifton has not been as sharp as previous years and seems less physical in his line play this season. It could be the zone blocking scheme is not the best fit for him ,but undoubtedly if he was healthy , Clifton would be having a better year. Daryn Collegde and Scott Wells did a good job in the run game creating seams for Green to cut back through.
DEFENSIVE LINE: 1/2 GOLD BAR--Were was the D-line? Besides Ryan Pickett the rest of the line stunk. Teams are fully aware of Aaron Kampman now and make sure he's accounted for at the snap. Colin Cole, Corey Williams, and Mike Montgomery all looked like stiffs. At least when these guys are blown off the line they hustle downfield to make the tackle. Kind of like calling the ambulance after you cause a car crash. KGB at least did cause Pennington to be picked off as he came around the outside and hit the Jets Qb in the 3rd quarter.
LINEBACKERS:2 GOLD BARS-- Nick Barnett did what he could with "club 56" on his right hand. Looked as if he would have had a pick if not for the club. All three LB's were running around all over the place and that was there problem against the Jets. All three were out of position constantly Sunday. Seemingly not sure where to be and getting caught up with Jet o-lineman as Cedric Houston ripped off chunks of yards on draws and play action. Same in pass defense. Always a step behind the play. Another team that exposed the Packers biggest weakness. Zone pass coverage in the middle of the field exposing young linebackers and suspect safeties
DB'S: 2 GOLD BARS-- Al Harris was stellar again shutting down Laverneous Coles. Woodson had another solid game and picked off a deep ball intended for Justin McCareins. Patrick Dendy also picked off a pass in the third quarter and shows some life as a nickle back but is still allowing to many passes to be completed on him. The banged up Nick Collins made sure to not to get beat deep but was slow to react to pass plays in front of him. Marquand Manuel ,as has been the case all season, was a step behind in pass coverage again.
SPECIAL TEAMS:1-1/2 GOLD BARS-- Even though Rayner missed his 40 yd field goal he again for the second straight week made a td saving tackle in return coverage. Not a good sign though for the coverage units if the kicker is making tackles. As for the Packer returnees they couldn't tell you what the opposing teams kicker looks like because they never get the ball out that far for him to even attempt to make a tackle. Hopefully a year of seasoning at Lambeau will help Rayner in future bad weather games. The packers did pull off an onside kick in the game with a little help from the Jets LB Anthony Schlegal as he touched the ball and the Packers Jason Hunter recovered it.
