Headline: Packers Favre-Olous in Victory Against Lions
Game MVP: Brett Favre
Offensive Player of the Game: Brett Favre
Defensive Player of the Game: Corey Williams
Brett Favre turned the clock back again this week taming the
Detroit Lions for a 31-24 victory Sunday at Ford Field.
Favre passed for 340yds and three tds and
Marquand Manuel
returned an Ahmad Carroll tipped pass for a touchdown to lead the Pack. The game turned into a nail bitter late when
Ahman Green fumbled trying to pick up a game clinching first down. But the Packers D held on for the victory in Detroit.
Players of the Game Recap; BRETT FAVRE 340 yds and three tds. COREY WILLIAMS 5 tackles and two sacks
SUSAN B. ANTHONY Gold coin player of the week: AARON KAMPMAN - 1 tackle and 1 assist no sacks against a rookie third
string tackle. Put on the dress Aaron.
GOLD BAR RATINGS (1-5 BARS)
QB: 4 -1/2 GOLD BARS:
Favre was on his game this day. Playing with the poise and intelligence, like a 16 year vet should,
Brett showed he still has the athleticism and arm that some 8 or 9 year vets wish they still had. Time after time
Favre went through his check downs to hit his third or fourth options all day. In total
Favre hit ten different receivers keeping the
Lions off balance all day throwing for 340 yds and three tds.
RB: 2-1/2 GOLD BARS:
Ahman Green again looks as if he is shaking off the rust. Though not effective in the running game
Green made his presence felt as a receiver.
Green caught 8 balls for 68 yds and a td. Each week he looks more comfortable with his hands, timing,
and cuts. But the fumble late in the fourth quarter shouldn't happen. Even though it was an ok hit by
Lions
Ahman has held on to the ball in this situation before. Same with Noah Herron. Hang onto the ball. He gave
away at least three points with his first half fumble. William Henderson showed he still can catch the ball out
of the backfield but lacks as a blocker. For this reason alone the 5'11" 236lb Brandon Miree was brought up from
the practice squad Tues.
WR/TE: 4 GOLD BARS: He had only one catch but Koren Robinson showed the receivers they need to make plays even when
the ball isn't right there. At a crucial juncture in the game in the second quarter on third down Robinson stretched
out and picked a high outside fastball from
Favre for a first down thus keeping the chains moving.
Greg Jennings also showed what a playmaker looks like when he took a 7 yd slant to the house for a 75
yd touchdown. After a tough start
Donald Driver bounced back with a TD.
Bubba Franks rebounded nicely from a sub-par game last week.
OFF.LINE: 3 GOLD BARS: If the grade was for pass blocking alone the grade would be a solid 4 bars.
But the run does have to be factored into the equation thus lowering the rating. Colledge and Moll
were continually moved around in the run game. Both players need to anchor better to be more effective
in the run game. For this reason alone look for Jason Spitz to return in hopes of getting the run game
rolling. Chad Clifton easily had his best game of the season looking more like the solid pro he's been
in the past. As a group the line is starting to "gang block" more. A key to the zone blocking scheme.
DEF. LINE: 2-1/2 GOLD BARS: Again this week no consistent pressure on the QB. Corey Williams had his best day as
a pro with 5 tackles and two sacks. Ryan Pickett and KenDerick Allen both went down with injuries in
this game. Aaron Kampman was invisible during the game as well as KGB. Top this off with the fact Kevin
Jones was picking up 4.8 yds a crack the line has had better games.
LINEBACKERS: 3 GOLD BARS: Each weeks you can see the progression of
AJ Hawk in the defense. Look for
Hawk to start to make the occasional big play as his instincts are allowed to take over. He
exploded to the ball on his sack. Same can be said for Brady Poppinga as he matures in the D he'll
need to ramp up the coverage skills to stay on the field.
Nick Barnett had a solid game in pass coverage and against the run. Got to love that
"Samurai Dance".
DEF.BACKS: 2 GOLD BARS: The safeties seem to be a problem early on this season. Collins and Manuel
seem to be out of position all too often. Until these two know were they're going the Packers pass
defense will suffer. Harris and Woodson have looked worse then they are at times due to this fact.
Yes both corners could be playing better; but with no pass rush and suspect safety play, any corner
will have a tough time. Ahmad Carroll had a solid game with the tip that led to Manuel's TD.
SPECIAL TEAMS: 3-1/2 GOLD BARS: This unit has been a positive early on. Jon Ryan boomed the ball for
a 49.6 yd average. Raynor kicked off deep and made his FG's. Robinson showed why he's a
pro bowl returner with a 28.0 yd kick off return average. Even the coverage was good as the dangerous
Eddie Drummond was held in check most of the day.
