Headline: Packers WIN Regular Season Finale AND WIN NFC North Championship Game MVP: Ahmann Green: 20 carries=218 yards!!!! And 2 Touchdowns
WOW!!!!!!! What an exciting way to finish the season! First.... the Packers dominated Denver in a 31-3 rout. The game saw Ahmann Green rush for TWO records. 1. The longest run from scrimmage in Packer history..... 98 yards for a touchdown! 2. The first Packer in history to rush for 200 yards in a single game(218)
Second..... The Vikings CHOKED and blew a 17-6 lead late in the fourth quarter to LOSE to Arizona 18-17. That knocked them out of the playoffs and gave the Packers their second consecutive NFC North division title and a HOME playoff game.
The Packers took control on the opening drive of the game. On the first play, Favre passed to Walker for 11 yards. A few plays later, on third and 9, Favre connected with Driver for a 20 yard gain out to the 41. Seven plays later, Favre had the Packers with a first and goal at the 3. Green gained 1 yard, then on second and goal Favre tossed to Bubba Franks for the TOUCHDOWN. Longwell added the p.a.t. for a 7-0 lead. That would be all the scoring in the first quarter, as the two teams traded field positions with punts for the remaining time.
Early in the second quarter, the teams traded field position with interceptions. First, Al Harris of the Packers intercepted a Jackson pass and returned it 33 yards down to the 27. But...... on first down, Favre threw deep nto the endzone for Walls and was intercepted by Sam Brandon. The Broncos were unable to convert and punted after just three plays. The Packers would extend the lead to 10-0 on the next drive as Longwell connected from 33 yards.
Denver got what would be their only points of the game on their second possession of the third quarter as Elam capped off an 8 play drive with a 31 yard field goal to make it 10-3. Green Bay strck right back on their nextdrive. On first down at the 31, Favre passed to Walker for a gain of 15 out to the 46. Green then ran for 47 yards down to the 7. On first and goal, Davenport ran up the middle for five yards. On second and goal at the 2, Green scored the TOUCHDOWN. Longwell added the extra point to extend the lead to 17-3. On the kick-off Adrian Madise caught it at the 12, and returned it 83 yards down to the 12. The Packer defense came up strong and stopped Denver on a fourth and goal at the 1.
Early in the fourth, the Packers and Ahmann Green put the game out of reach. After the defense stopped Denver, Favre and the offense started at the 2. On first down, Favre handed off to Green..... Green cut off right guard and broke loose, he ran untouched 98 yards for the TOUCHDOWN. Longwell added the extra point to extend the lead to 24-3. On the kick-off Madise fumbled while being tackled, the ball rolled free into the endzone, Marcus Wilkins recovered for the Packers for a TOUCHDOWN. Longwell added the p.a.t. and it was 31-3 with over 13 minutes remaining.
At this point it was evident that the Packers were going to win their TENTH game of the season and finish at 10-6.
MEANWHILE....... In Arizona....... the Vikings were leading 17-6, which meant that the Packers season was going to end and the Vikings would go the playoffs.
BUT WAIT....... The BEST was still to come. Arizona scored a touchdown withjust under two minutes remaining. The Cardinals went for the two point conversion to tie, but missed, and they trailed 17-15. With 1:54 remaining, the Cardinals tried the on-sides kick. Damian Anderson recovered it! The Viking defense tried to stop Arizona, they even managed a sack on Quarterback McCowan to set up an improbable fourth and 25. McCowan threw a hail Mary into the endzone, which was CAUGHT by NATHAN POOLE for the TOUCHDOWN with 0:00 remaining to give Arizona an 18-17 victory and sending the Vikings home for the season with a loss.
When news of this awsome finish reached Lambeau Field, fans began to cheer and yell as if the Packers had just won the Superbowl!!!
Not yet...... The Packers did win the game 31-3 to finish at 10-6 and WIN the NFC North Division!!!
