The up and down rollercoaster ride with the Green Bay Packers continued Monday night on a DOWN slide, as the Packers committed SEVEN turnovers----- 3 fumbles and 4 interceptions from Brett Favre. In the end it was an EMBARRASSING 27-7 loss to their former coach and his Seattle Seahawks.
Things started out slow as both teams traded punts on their opening drives. The Packers were forced to punt also on their second drive. Aguiar booted a forty yard kick, that Charlie Rogers fumbled after catching, the Packers recovered, and looked to be in GREAT field position with a first down at the twenty. However..... on first down, Favre threw the ball into heavy coverage intending it for Freeman, and he was intercepted by Shawn Springs in the endzone. Seattle was unable to move the ball so they punted right back to the Packers. Starting their fourth drive of the night at the 36, the Packers began to move the ball. On third and ten, Favre threw to Henderson for a gain of twelve. Next play, Dorsey Levens ran for a gain of fifteen. Unfortunatly, the drive stalled when Mike Whale was called for holding on third and five. Longwell came in to attempt a fifty yard field goal. The Seahawks BLOCKED the kick, and Shawn Springs returned it 61 yards for a touchdown. Following the extra point, the Seahawks led 7-0. The teams once again traded punts on their next series. Then late in the quarter, the Packers had the ball. On first and ten at the 48, Favre under heavy pressure scrambled, he was sacked and FUMBLED the ball. Seattle recovered at the 48. A long first quarter came to an end with the Packers troubles having just begun trailing 7-0.
The Packers would score their ONLY touchdown of the game early in the second quarter to tie the score at 7-7. On second and eleven at the 26, Favre threw to an open Corey Bradford who out ran the defense 74 yards for the score.
On their next series, each team traded fumbles instead of punts.Seattle's next score was set up after they recovered a Dorsey Levens fumble. In just six plays, Kitna guided them into the endzone. The drive concluded on first and goal at the ten, when Kitna passed to former Packer Derrick Mayes for the touchdown. With just over 5:30 remaining in the half, Seattle went ahead for good 14-7. The Packers concluded the half, when Favre was intercepted on a fourth and ten play.
Seattle opened up the third quarter with a BIG statement.
Kitna drove his team 73 yards in 9 plays and passed to Sean Dawkins on third and goal from the two for a touchdown. Follinf the extra point, it was 21-7. Things really went south on the Packers after that. Favre had the Packers on a roll. After picking up some first downs, the Packers worked the ball down to the 37. After the play...... Earl Dotson was EJECTED from the game after being called for a DOUBLE unsportmanlike penalty, which cost the Packers 30 yards. Any momentum they had built up was now gone, as they punted for the FIFTH time in the game. On Seattle's next drive, some light was shed as Vonnie Holliday SACKED Kitna forcing Seattle to punt.
However.... on the Packers next drive, Favre scrambled again, and forced a pass while being sacked and it was ruled a fumble. Seattle recovered at the 35 as time ran out in the third quarter.
Things went from bad to worse in the fourth quarter. Favre was intercepted TWO more times and each time, Seattle scored a field goal.
All totaled, the numbers were against the Packers. SEVEN turnovers and a 27-7 score of which they were on the short end.
Now at 4-3, the Packers will have to regroup as they prepare for their divisional foe........ the Chicago Bears.
