One week ago the Green Bay Packers were riding high after their impressive victory over the defending Superbowl champion Baltimore Ravens. This week after a humbling 35-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the Packers head into their annual bye week at 4-2 and find themselves trailing the Chicago Bears who at 4-1 are in first place.
Both teams battled for field position and traded fumbles during a scoreless first quarter. Early in the seond quarter, the Packers threatened to put the first points of the day on the board. Ryan Longwell attempted a 42 yard field goal but it was no good. The Vikings would turn around and drive down the field for the first score of the afternoon. Doug Chapman had gains of four and tweleve yards. Next Culpepper rolled out to the right side, and threw down field in the far left corner, where Chris Carter pulled in in for the touchdown. Gary Anderson added the p.a.t. and it was 7-0.
On the ensuing kick-off the Packers started from their 17. On second down.... Favre was rushed and threw a wobbily pass which was intercepted by Kailee Wong who returned it 27 yards for the touchdown to give the Vikings a 14-0 lead. The next Packer's drive resulted in disaster. On third and ten, Favre out of the shotgun, lost the ball and fell down on it for an 18 yard loss. The punt, allowed the Vikings to start at the 46. The Packer defense woke up and stopped the Vikings offense, holding them to a 42 yard field goal from Anderson to make it 17-0. Unfortunaty.... Favre and the offense were still unable to move the ball, and had to punt back to the Vikings again. Minnesota would control the clock and ball for the remainder of the half. Culpepper would scramble on a play for a huge gain of 37 yards. An offensive pass interference penalty cost the Vikings some crucial yardage near the goal line and they settled for a 36 yard field goal from Anderson to take a 20-0 lead at halftime.
The Packers took the second half kick-off and made it pay off. on the second play......Ahmann Green burst open for a huge gain down to the five.He was later called for a face mask. The Packers worked it down to the eight for a first and goal. On third and goal.... Favre faded to the right, and tossed into the endzone for Bubba Franks for the touchdown. Longwell added the p.a.t. to make it 20-7.
In the fourth quarter, the Vikings would recapture the momentum. Culpepper made a nice pass for a gain of 16 yards to Randy Moss. Then Culpepper broke through the line for a 15 yard gain down to the endzone for the score. Electing to go for two on the conversion, the Vikings converted as Culpepper passed to Jake Reed to make it 28-7. The Vikings would seal their victory on their next possession on a dominating 14 play--73 yard drive which used 9:30 and made it 35-7.
The Packers would manage to score a consolation touchdown late in the game, and fail on the two point conversion to make the FINAL SCORE:
Minnesota 35

Packers are now 4-2 on the season.
Following the Bye this week, the Packers return to action at home against Tampa Bay.
