Headline: Packers Take the Sparks away from CHARGERS
What a difference a week makes in the lives of the Green Bay Packers
and their fans. The Packers headed into San Diego on Sunday, fresh on
the heels of their worst defeat in years, just last Sunday in Denver.
???? What would happen???? ??? Would the Packers take a nose dive for a
second straight week???? OR..... Would they rebound with a WIN????
The Answer B......... The Packers rebounded with a HUGE win 31-3 over
the San Diego Chargers!!!!!!!! At the outset, the Chargers looked to
take control of the game in their home stadium. They moved the ball
quite well. On their second series, they drove down the field to the
five yard line. On second and goal, Eric Kramer threw to Mikaehl Ricks
but he was INTERCEPTED by Mike Mckenzie. Favre and the offense came out
and went to work. First, Favre threw to Freeman for a gain of 35 yards.
On the next play, Favre threw to Schroeder who beat defender Jimmy
Spencer for a gain of 14 yards. Three plays later, Favre passed to
William Henderson inside the five, and he powered his way in for the
score. After Longwell kicked the point after the Packers led 7-0.
The Packers would extend the lead to 14-0 in the second quarter, when
Dorsey Levens would score a TOUCHDOWN with less than two minutes having
been elapsed in the quarter. The scoring opportunity was set up when
Eric Kramer threw his second interception of the day into the hands of
Fred Vinson, which gave the Packers a first down at the 28.It was also
aided by a holding penalty on the Chargers. With just over four minutes
remaining in the first half, the Chargers would get what would turn out
to be their ONLY points of the day. After having the ball for over five
minutes, and despite the fact that the Packers defense gave them three
tries for a touchdown on penalties, the Chargers produced just three
points on a John Carney 28 yard field goal. The two teams went to the
locker room at halftime with the Packers leading 14-3.
In the third quarter......... the Packers would put their stamp of
approval on the field of victory Aided largely by an interference
penalty on Charger defensive back Curtis Shaw. On that play, Corey
Bradford was running a deep post pattern against Shaw, as the two
players went for the ball, Shaw ran into Bradford. The Packers then had
a first and goal at the six. On first down, Favre threw an incomplete
pass to Freeman. Then on second down...... Favre threw a bullet of a
pass to Bill Schroeder for a TOUCHDOWN. The Chargers appeared to come
storming back on their next drive, now trailing the Packers 21-3.
However....... just when it looked like they would score, Tyronne
Williams INTERCEPTED a pass from Kramer at the 1 YARD LINE. From
there....... Brett Favre took the Packers on a tremendous 99 yard drive
over the next 14 plays. It concluded when Favre hit Freeman on a three
yard pass for a TOUCHDOWN. After three quarters, the Packers were well
in control leading 28-3.
Safely ahead in the fourth quarter, Brett Favre was able to rest, and
watch from the sidelines as Matt Hasselbeck took over the controls.
Meanwhile, Eric Kramer also watched from the San Diego sidelines, but
for different reasons. Jim Harbaugh took over, but he too threw an
interception. Darren Sharper picked off his pass at the 34. Unable to
move the ball, the Packers recorded their final points of the day on a
Ryan Longwell 46 yard field goal o make the FINAL SCORE Packers 31
Chargers 3
With the win, the Packers are now 4-2 and in a first place tie with the
Lions.
Next Up........ Monday Nov. 1 vs. Seattle and their head
coach......... MIKE HOLMGREN. ???? Any one have tickets ?????
