The Green Bay Packers entered Sunday's game in Detroit against the Lions with high aspiratons, of finally getting a victory in the Pontiac Silver dome. After all, Barry Sanders has retired, and star receiver Herman Moore was out with an injury. BUT...... unforunatly, for the fifth time in the past six years, the Packers came away with a loss 23-15.

Much like the Badger's offense on Saturday, the Packers seemed stalled in neutral almost all day also. Brett Favre was not himself. For the most part,he played too cautiously, trying to avoid further injury to his thumb.
The Packers managed to drive down the field mid way through the first quarter, but after Dorsey Levens lost yardage on a running play, the Packers had to settle for a 45 yard Ryan Longwell field goal and a 3-0 lead.

The Lions grabbed the lead in the second quarter, with the help of a POOR punt from Louie Aguiar. Johnnie Morton also came up with some big plays against the unexperienced Packers defensive secondary. On a third and seven Charlie Batch found Morton for a gain of 20. Three plays later, Morton beat out Packer defender, Mike McKenzie on a pass patern, and ran un-touched 45 yards for a Lions touchdown. It capped off a six play-72 yard drive and gave the Lions a 7-3 lead. The Lions added to their lead a short time later. After the Packers failed to produce, they were forced to punt. Unfortunatly....... once again Aguiar's punt was a bluff and went less than thirty yards.
The Lions first play was for no gain.BUT...... on the next play, the Packers defense got caught with their pants down.Electing to rush only four players, David Sloan who was lined up as a tight end, beat out the Packers defense, and caught a perfect pass from Batch in full stride, 74 yards later, he was in the endzone with a Lions touch down. Just that fast, the Lions increased their lead to 14-3.
The Packers would manage to put three more points on the board before the end of the half. Brian Williams intercepted a Charlie Batch pass to get the offense back on the field. On the drive..... Favre hit Freeman for a BIG gainer of almost fifty yards. Favre also completed a pass for a gain of twenty yards to Levens. Next....Favre hit Bill Schroeder for a gain of six. the drive eventually stalled, and the Packers settled for a Longwell fieldgoal. The Packers went to the locker room at half trailing 14-6.

Neither team produced any points or note worthy excitement in the third quarter. But..... some excitement did arise in favor of the Packers at the beginning of the Fourth quarter.

The Packers defense came alive when Brian Williams tackled Cory Schlesinger for a loss of three yards, forcing the Lions to punt, from deep inside their territory. The snap from center, saw the ball fly out of the end zone for a safety. Lions now led 14-8. Following the Lions free kick back to the Packers, the lead would change hands back in favor of Green Bay. Brett Favre found Bill Schroeder open and threw a pass to him for a gain of 30 yards. On the next play, Levens scored a two yard run. The play capped off a great drive for bth Levens and the Packers, as they took over the lead 15-14. Unfortunatly there was still too much time remaining........ over 12 minutes.
On the insuing kick-off....... Terry Fair returned it 91 yards down to the eight. Three plays later.....Charlie Batch carried the ball in himself for the score. The Lions elected to go for two points...... but it failed.HOWEVER..they had the lead and the game momentum back at 20-15.
The Lions would close out the game and the scoring on a 10 play-63 yard drive with a field goal that used up over five minutes. The Packers got the ball back with just over 2:30 remaining. But..... there would be NO last minute heroics this week for Favre and company. The Lions would prevail once again in their den, beating the Packers 23-15.
With the win..... the Lions are 2-0.
The Packers fall to 1-1.
