Headline: Packers Lose Battle of the Bays-Drop to 0-3
It may only be three games into the 2005 season, but its time to face realty. The great savior Brett Favre can only do so much. And given the lack of talent he has been given to work with this year, we could realistically be viewing the FINAL season in the hall of fame career of Brett Favre.
While the Packers showed some improvement on Sunday and only lost by 1, the point is it's still a LOSS and the Packers are searching for answers to salvage a season.
FIRST QUARTER:
Tampa Bay convertd their first points of the day after they recovered a FUMBLE by William Henderson. Carnell Williams dominated the drive, carrying the ball eight times for 25 yards. The Bucs eventually scored on a second and goal, Griese passed to Galloway in the right corner of the endzone for the touchdown. Bryant added the p.a.t for a 7-0 lead.
The Packers came right back on the next drive. On first down, Favre passed to Driver for a 38 yard gain. Favre controlled a few plays including a run for 8 on a broken play. The drive ended with Favre passing to Ferguson on fourth down for the TOUCHDOWN. Unfortunatly...... Longwell MISSED the p.a.t. and Tampa Bay maintained the lead at 7-6.
SECOND QUARTER:
The Bucs regained control and extended the lead early in the second quarter. Griese connected with Galloway for 16 yards, and then Kampman was called for roughing the passer to give Tampa another 15 yards. A few plays later Galloway beat out Barnett in single coverage and caught a pass for the touchdown. Bryant added the p.a.t. giving Tampa Bay a 14-6 lead with 10:30 remaining.
The Bucs would further extend the lead about four minutes later as Bryant booted a 42 yard field goal making it a 17-6 game.
The Packers would bounce back on the next series. The Bucs helped a bit with some penalties. First big play of the drive happened as Chatman gained 10 yards on a reverse. Later, Favre threw deep for Driver, it gained 42 yards as pass interference was called on Tampa Bay. John Gruden was then called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty as he yelled hard at a referee. That added 10 more yards. Eventually Favre found Chatman open down the side and passed to him for a 22 yard TOUCHDOWN. Longwell added the p.a.t. to make the score 17-13.
THIRD QUARTER: Neither team scored. However, the Packers saw Favre pass on various plays for gains of 11 to Driver and 17 to Chatman. Longwell MISSED from 42 yards on a field goal attempt.
FOURTH QUARTER:
The Packers defense acme up with their FIRST take-away of the season. Griese attempted to pass to Michael Pittman on the sideline,Ahmad Carroll dove and made a one handed INTERCEPTION which he returned 33 yards. Green carried the ball for a gain of 15 yards down to the 19. Next, Henderson was tackled for a no-gain, and then Kevin Barry was called for a false start. The drive stalled forcing the Packers to have Longwell kick a 32 yard field goal to close out the scoring for the game, which made the FINAL SCORE
