Headline: Green Bay Packers vs Miami Dolphins Game Summary
The Green Bay Packers Improved their pre-season record
to 2-1 after beating the
Miami Dolphins 17-12, in the
rain and mud at Lambeau Field. The crowd of 59,547 was
roaring as though it were the season opener, even
though the game was played as sloppy as the field
conditions. The Packers number 1 offense looked out
of sinc for the third strait game. In the final
pre-season game, you will not see more than 1 or 2
series from the number 1 offense. That's what made
Saturdays game against the
Dolphins so dis-heartening.
There were still, way to many dropped passes for the
amount of time this offense has been together in this
pre-season.
"The Offense"
In the first quarter, the packers offense was on track, as Bill Schroeder caught a 2 yard
pass on the first play of the game, and turned it up field for a 21-yard gain. Later in the
drive
Brett Favre hit Rondell Mealey for 13 yards on a play action. The drive eventually
stalled at the 12-yard line, resulting in a 29 yard field goal by Ryan Longwell. On the
second offensive series
Favre threw a bad pass that should have been intercepted by Zach
Thomas. As always,
Favre came back and threw a strike along the sideline, to Donald Driver
for 18-yards. After a 16-yard pass interference penalty that got the packers down to the
23-yard line, Herbert "Whisper" Goodman had been fortunate enough to recover his own
fumble to gain 4-yards, to set up a third and 3 at the 16. Then
Favre threw bullet to
Corey Bradford in which he bobbled at the 11, before securing it, and scampering into
the enzone for a touchdown to give the Packers a 10-0 lead. The Packers offense really
didn't do much the rest of the game, until Doug Pederson audibled on a 4th quarter draw
play that De'Mond Parker took 54-yards up the middle of the field to the 8-yard line. Then
Parker capped off the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run, that put the Packers ahead for good.
"The Defense"
Even before the game started, the crowd roared when Gilbert Grown stepped on the field.
Brown, the lovable crowd favorite, was back at work plugging the middle for the packers defense.
After pushing
Dolphins center Tim Ruddy into the backfield, Brown brought down Autry Denson for a
1-yard loss. Brown dusted off the move he made famous, "The Grave Digger", and the fans that packed
Lambeau Field ate it up with a Spoon! Later in the game the
Dolphins were facing a third
and 2 at the Packers 4 yard line. Brown went in for Harry Deligianis, and proceeded to
completely plug the middle and stop Denson for little, or no gain. The
Dolphins had to settle for
another field goal to take the lead 12-10. Brown finished with five tackles, which is
unbelievable considering the amount of snaps he was on the field. THERE WILL BE MORE TO COME!
Darren Sharper also played the kind of game Packers fans have come to expect from their
Pro-Bowl Safety. He intercepted a pass in the first quarter that was intended for
former
Wisconsin Badger Chris Chambers. Although Chambers is having n excellent pre-season
for the
Dolphins, Sharper looked as though he was in the
Dolphins huddle when the play
was called, as he ran the route seemingly better than Chambers. Sharper also made a play
later in the game in which he destroyed Chambers on a slant as if to say "Not in My House Rookie!".
I've told you before, and I'll tell you again, its going to be a pick parade in the Packers
secondary. It's going to be a fun ride this year! That's the way I saw it... BigE.
