The Packers gave themselves a double Christmas present on Sunday. A win over Cleveland, and a slot in the playoffs.
Green Bay played well on both sides of the ball to earn their tenth victory of the season.
Brett Favre started things fast for the Packers, on the opening drive of the game. Ahmann Green had two consecutive runs for 27 and 19 yards. Favre threw to Bubba Franks for a gain of 12 to give the Packers a first and goal at the 9. Two plays later.... Favre tossed a short one yarder to Franks for the touchdown. Longwell had his extra point blocked and it was 6-0. The Browns faultered on their first series of the day, as Couch was intercepted by Bha Jue, who after a 35 yard return, gave Green Bay a first down at the 46. Favre moved the Packers down field in just seven plays, and again capped off the drive, by passing to Franks from four yards out for the score, to make it 13-0. The Browns struggled for the remainder of the opening quarter, and settled for punts on their next two possesions.
In the second quarter, Tim Couch would lead the Browns to what would be their only score for the day. First, Couch scrambled for a a gain of 10. Then Jamel White found a hole and ran for 51 yards before being stopped at the 8.
Three plays later... Couch tossed a three yard pass to White for the touchdown. Dawson added the p.a.t. and i was 13-7. The Packers would answer that score, on their next drive. It was a nice drive, covering 42 yards in 11 plays, capped off with a 39 yard field goal from Longwell, making it 16-7. The Packer defense would get some points, on Cleveland's next possession. After Couch picked up a few first downs, and had his team at the 31 with another, he went back to pass, and was interepted by Tyronne Williams, who returned it 69 yards for the touchdown. longwell added the extra point, and it was a 23-7 lead as the first half ended.
Neither team, was able to move the ball well in the third quarter. Longwell came up short on a 45 yard field goal attempt, and then as the third quarter closed... Williams intercepted his SECOND pass of the day from Couch.
The Packers put the game ot of reach on the first drive of the fourth quarter. It was Brett Favre; Ahmann Green;and DORSEY LEVENS on the drive. First Green gained 8. Then Favre hit Schroeder for a gain of 6. Next Green carried for a big gain of 43 yards down to the 21. Levens, then came to relieve Green, and gained 5 yards on his first carry. Then on the next play, Favre from out of the shotgun, threw to Levens for the 16 yard touchdown. Longwell added the p.a.t. and it was 30-7.
From that point on, the teams traded punts and field position until the FINAL gun for the score:
