What a difference a month makes for a football season. Just four weeks ago the Packers were down with a 1-4 record. Now following a four game winning streak, they are at 5-4 and back on top of the NFC North.
Green Bay was ready to play from the opening kick, as they marched down field and scored in just 8 plays. The scoring play was on third and ten at the 50, Favre passed down field to Javon Walker, who caught the ball in stride and ran in for the TOUCHDOWN. Longwell added the p.a.t. for an early 7-0 lead.
The Vikings stormed back to tie the game on their next drive. Culpepper kept it going two times as he connected on passes of 22 and 17 yards on third and long. Eventually on second and 1 from the 13, Culpepper passed to Jermaine Wiggins for the touchdown to tie the game a 7-7.
The Packers would re-gain the lead on their next drive which carried over from the late first quarter into the early second quarter. The key play on the drive was on second and 8 at the 37. Favre passed to David Martin for a gain of 35 yards. On just the third play of the second quarter, Favre concluded the drive with a two yard shovel pass to Tony Fisher for the TOUCHDOWN. Following Longwell's kick, the Packers led 14-7.
The Vikings would storm back to score again, although it was just for three points on a 21 yard field goal from Morton Anderson which made it 14-10 with 8:50 remaining n the first half.
The Packers rolled back strong on their next drive. On first down at the 31, Green rushed for 35 yards. Then on the next play, Green burst open for 18 yards down to the 17. On first down at the 17, Favre passed to Bubba Franks for the TOUCHDOWN. Longwell added the p.a.t. and the Packers extended the lead to 21-10.
The Vikings were unable to move the ball on the next series and kicked it back to Green Bay. The Packers took over with 4:32 remaining. 14 plays later, Longwell ended the first half with a 43 yard field goal which gave the Packers a 24-10 lead at half time.
In the third, the teams initially traded punts. Then with about five minutes left in the quarter and the Packers on offense, Favre handed off to Green who handed to Driver, he gained 14 yards, but then fumbled. The Vikings recovered at the 46. It only took the Vikings five plays to cash in and score. Following a 22 yard pass reception by Burleson, the Vikings had first and goal at the 8.Culpepper passed to Burleson for the touchdown. Anderson added the p.a.t. and it was back to a seven point diffrence at 24-17.
Early in the fourth, the Packers concluded a drive that started in the late third quarter. On second and 8 from the 19, Favre passed to Walker for 12 yards. Two plays later, on second and goal at the 6, Favre rolled out and passed to William Henderson for the TOUCHDOWN. Longwell added the p.a.t. to extend the Packers lead to 31-17.
But the Vikings would threaten to send the game to over-time as they rallied for two touchdowns on their next two drives to tie the game at 31-31 with only 1:10 remaining.
With no-time-outs remaining, all Minnesota could do was to rely on their defense to stop the Packers and send i to over-time. But Favre came through. On first dow he passed to TONY Fisher for 25 yards. Four plays later the clock showed :03. Longwell came in and kicked a 33 yard field goal as time expired!
