All the odds were against the Packers on Sunday night in Minnesota. 3-4 record heading into the game. Brett Favre with an injured thumb and a 2-9 life time record in the Dome. But in the end, the Packers returned from the bye week and recorded an impressive 30-27 victory.
The Packers came out strong on the opening drive of the game. Ahmann Green gained 17 yards on the first play of the game. Two plays later, Green swept to the left on a fake reverse and gained 27 yards down to the Vikings 14.
Favre then faked a pass, rolled out to the left and passed to David Martin for a first down at the 2. The Vikings defense woke up and stopped the Packers on three plays, forcing Ryan Longwel to come in and kick a 21 yard field goal for an early 3-0 Packer lead. The Vikings hit pay dirt on their first drive of the night. On first down.Culpepper hit Nate Burleson for a gain of 15. Next he found Randy Moss for a gain of 14. Three plays later, Culpepper and Moss connected up for a 43 yard touch down pass to give the Vikings a 7-3 lead. The Packers bounced right back. On the second play, Driver gained 46 yards on a reverse. A few plays later, Favre connected with Driver again for a touchdown, but it was called back for illegal motion. The drive stalled, and the Packers settled for a Longwell field goal of 43 yards to make it a 7-6 game.
The Packers would re-gain the lead in the second quarter.
On the final play of the first quarter, Green gained 12 yards. On the first play of quarter 2, Favre passed to Driver for a 26 yard gain. A few plays later, Davenport gained 23 yards. On first and goal at the 6, Favre passed to Green for the touchdown, Longwell added the p.a.t. o give Green Bay a 13-7 lead. The Vikings would re-capture the lead later in the quarter, after they intercepted a pass from Favre. It took just seven plays to score and the Vikings regained the lead at 14-13. The Packers would bounce back and re=gain the lead before half time. Favre would pass to Green on a screen pass for a gain of 27. Tony Fisher then gained 15 yards. Favre then passed to Walker for the touch down to give Green Bay a 20-14 lead at the half.
The Vikings opened the second half with a 12 play drive that resulted in a 43 yard field goal from Elling to make it a 20-17 game. Later in the quarter Elling connected from 38 yards out to tie the game at 20-20.
In the fourth quarter, Green Bay extended the lead to 27-20,as Favre passed to Walker for the touchdown on first down at the 12. After stopping Minnesota on their next drive, the Packers pulled away 30-20 with a 27 yard field goal from Longwell. The Vikings fought back with a late touchdown to make it close at 30-27. After Sharper recoverd their on-side kick attempt, it was all over and the Packers had a 30-27 victory.
