Headline: Packers Get Ugly Victory Over Tampa Bay Game MVP: Allen Rossum--- 55 yard punt return for game winning touchdown Offensive Player of the Game: Ahman Green-- 24 carries for 169 yards and 1 touchdown
Despite the fact that
Brett Favre
once again had a less than superlative game,
the Packers found a way to win at home for the eighth straight time and defeated
Tampa Bay
21-20 to improve to 5-2 on the season.
Tampa Bay took the opening kick, and went three and out. Following a punt the Packers began
their possession of the game at the 43. On first down,
Favre immeadiatly passed to
Freeman
for a gain of 15 yards.
Ahman Green
then combined for yardage gains of 7; 4; 7; and 3
yards to give the Packers a first down at the
Tampa Bay 21. On first down
Favre passed to
Freeman
for the touchdown. The connection was the 54th time in their careers that the two
combined for a touchdown. That put them #2 all-time on the NFL list. That would be the only
scoring in the opening quarter, as the Packer defense held
Tampa Bay
to just 7 yards total
offense in their first three possessions.
Early in the second quarter, the Packers were on a drive carried over from the late first quarter.
On a third and three from the 19,
Favre attempted to pass to
Freeman
, and he was intercepted.
The
Buccaneers would only come away with three points as Gramatica kicked a 33 yard field goal.
The teams would trade punts on their next drives.
Tampa Bay
would later recover a fumble by
Ahman Green,
as the ball was knocked loose as
Green was struggling for extra yards. Brad Johnson scrambled for a gain of 21, and passed to Keyshaun Johnson for a gain of 22. Eventually Johnson passed to Dave Moore for an 11 touchdown on third and goal from the 11. Following the p.a.t.
Tampa
held a 10-7 lead. The Packers would storm back. Longwell attempted a 41 yard field goal as time expired in the first half, but it wide left and no good.
The Packers received to open the third quarter. But unfortunatly.... on the fourth play of the drive,
Favre threw his second interception of the day, giving
Tampa Bay
a first down at the 44. Brad Johnson made it pay off, as he guided his team on a six play--44 yard scoring drive. Johnson completed passes for gains of 19 yards to Reidell Anthony, and the touchdown pass of 19 yards to Mike Alstott. Gramatica added the point after, and
Tampa Bay
was rolling with a 17-7 lead. The Packers would burst back ino the game later in the third quarter.
Following a
Tampa
punt,
Favre and the Packers had a first down at the 37.
Favre handed off to
Green who cut to the right and raced 63 yards for the touchdown. Longwell converted the p.a.t. and it was a new game at 17-14. The Packer Defense came up BIG on the next series, sacking Johnson two times and forcing a punt as the quarter ended.
Through the early portion of the fourth quarter, the teams once again traded punts.
Tampa
had the start
of a drive at the 39 with nine minutes remaining. A pass interference penalty on
Darren Sharper gave
the Bucs the ball at the 34. However... from there the Packer defense shut down the Bucs and forced
them to settle for a 30 yard field goal by Gramatica to give them a 20-14 lead with six and half minutes
remaining. On the Packers next drive it was three plays and out.
Tampa
regained control at the 12
with 4:55 left.Following just five plays the Bucs were forced to punt back to the Packers. Royals
got off a decent punt of 45 yards which was ielded y Rossum at the 45, which he then returned 55
yards for wat proved to be the game winning touchdown!!!
Tampa Bay
would manage to get two more
possessions before time exired, but in the end, the PACKERS prevailed and WON.
With the victory, the Packers are now 5-2.
