Don' t look now...... But there are signs of life with the Green Bay Packers. On Sunday, they won their second straight game defeating Dallas 41-20.
The Cowboys opened the game on offense and looked impressive. Vinny Testeverde directed the Cowboys offense down field completing passes of 13 yards and 12 yards to Keshawn Johnson. He also completed a pass to Terry Glenn for six. Eventually the Packer defense caught up to him and SACKED him for a loss on a third and four play. That brought on Billy Cundiff for a 46 yard field goal to give the Cowboys an early 3-0 lead.
The Packers stormed back on the next drive. Favre passed to Walker for a gain of 44 yards. Three plays later, Longwell connected from 26 yards away to tie the game at 3-3.
The Cowboys took the kick and charged right bak at the Packers. On third and 8, Testeverde passdd to Quincy Morgan for a 55 yard gain giving Dallas a first down at the 25. Eventually, Cundiff came in and kicked a 24 yard field goal to give Dallas a 6-3 lead as the first quarter closed out.
The Packers opened the second quarter on a fast scoring drive. Green gained 32 yards on first down. Next Favre passed to Davenport for 12 yards down to the four. Two plays later, Green scored the TOUCHDOWN from 1 yard and with Longwell's extra point, the Packers had their first lead of the game at 10-6. The Packer defense stopped Dallas on the next drive and after a punt, the Packers regained the ball at the 21. Favre passed to Davenport, Walker, and Chatman for gains of 8-9- and 12 yards which got them out to mid-field. A few plays later, Chatman gained 18 yards down to the 18, and following a penalty one play later, the Packers had first and goal at the 7. Green then gained two down to the five. Next, Favre rolled out and passed to Walker for the TOUCHDOWN. Longwell added the p.a.t. to extend the lead to 17-6 with just under two minutes left in the half. The Packers would get the ball back just before the half ended and worked into field goal range. Longwell connected from 40 yards out as time expired. The Packers lead was now at 14 points with the score 20-6.
The Packers started the third quarter on offense. And once again, Favre and the offense scored. Green gained 12 yards on first down. A few plays later, Favre passed to Walker for 31 yards down to the 19. Three plays later on first and goal at the 8, the Packers ran the half-back option play to perfection! Favre handed off to Tony Fisher, who then threw a perfect pass to Bubba Franks in the end zone. Longwell added the p.a.t. and the Packers had a commanding lead of 27-6.
The Cowboys came back with an answer on their next drive.They would score in just six plays. The drive peaked with Testeverde thrwing a 42 yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten to narrow the gap to 27-13.
BUT..... The Packers would answer the call and score TWO more times before the quarter ended. Following the Dallas score, Favre lead the Packers on an 8 play-63 yard drive capped off with a 33 yard TOUCHDOWN pass to Donald Driver to allow the Packers to open up a 34-13 lead. After Dallas went three plays and a punt on their next drive, the Packers re-gained the ball at the 10. On first down, Favre handed off to Green who broke away and raced 90 yards for the TOUCHDOWN. As the third quarter closed out, the Packers had a commanding 41-13 lead.
The fourth quarter, saw Dallas get a touchdown making it 41-20. This scoring drive cae, after the Packers and Mc Briar were forced to punt for the FIRST time in the game.
That was all the scoring in the fourth quarter. When the game ended, the Packers had WON their second straight game.
